Please welcome the world's tallest building, which opened today in Dubai. Originally called Burj Dubai, the building was renamed Burj Khalifa, in honor of the president of Abu Dhabi, Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan (that's what you call a giant thank you for Abu Dhabi's bailout of Dubai). The Skidmore, Owings & Merrill-designed tower measures 2,716 feet, while the building's developer Emaar Properties was the unlucky group that owned now- defunct SoCal developer John Laing.
