The foundation and parking took forever, but now the Red Building is really taking shape. The third structure in Cesar Pelli's 14-acre Pacific Design Center in WeHo will be a 400,000 square foot collection of offices, retail, showrooms, a theater, and a conference center (and, whether you like it or not, mountains of parking). Designed like a ship, the bow is now crashing a bit into San Vicente Boulevard — to great dramatic effect. Though it remains to be seen whether the Los Angeles magazine quote from PDC owner Charles Cohen (that the Red Building will be one of "the most exciting and the most important architectural statements" in the world) is grandstanding or not. We'll have to wait until later this year, when the building is set to open, to see for ourselves (it was originally planned to debut in 2009).
