W Hollywood Tour, Part II: Checking out the Hotel Rooms

New, 35 comments

After yesterday's warm-up, this morning saw the grand opening of the W Hotel & Residences, an event hosted by longtime supporter (and neighbor), comedian Jimmy Kimmel. There were also performances by red and white-clad dancers and R&B musician Robin Thicke during the two hour ceremony. The residences aren't open yet, but we checked out three hotel rooms. The rooms have nicknames: "Fabulous" is the highest-level single room, the "Marvelous" is the lowest-level suite, and the "Wow" is the top suite (this particular one is the "Wow" Garden on the second floor, there's another "Wow Suite" on the eleventh floor). A W rep told Curbed the inspiration for the interiors was "Barbarella meets A Clockwork Orange," and that a repeating square motif throughout the hotel was meant to evoke Frank Lloyd Wright's work. There are 305 hotel rooms in total, including 40 suites. Rooms start in the mid to high $200s. All hotel room rates are constantly in flux, but here's a price comparison: The cheapest rate at West Hollywood's Sunset Tower is around $290, while the least expensive room at the downtown Standard is $148.
