When Circuit City filed for bankruptcy last year, the electronics retailer left behind a trail of big box stores that stretched from Silver Lake to Culver City. Now comes word a tenant is moving into one of those old dinosaurs. Let's take this as a positive sign of the economy. Meet Sprouts Farmers Market, an Arizona-based grocery store chain. The grocery store--described as similar to Trader Joes and Whole Foods---will open in mid-March in the former Circuit City store at 5660 Sepulveda Blvd (at Slauson Avenue) in Culver City. At 32,000 square feet, this new store is slightly bigger than a normal Sprouts store, a Sprouts rep tells us. And there's a job fair coming up for positions at the store--look for news of that on their web site. Meanwhile, we're not sure the status of the Sunset Blvd Circuit City, but if the store is still looking for a tenant, perhaps Silver Lake wants to lobby for their own Sprouts? (Since no one has come forward with that proposed roller disco lounge.)
