For those who complain that LA's Metro goes nowhere, take a gander at the attached map for the Las Vegas monorail, which doesn't connect to the city's downtown, airport, or one single residential area. Unsurprisingly, the 3.9-mile monorail that opened in 2004 has now filed for Chapter 11, reports Reuters (the line is expected to continue service during the bankruptcy process). The monorail's CEO blames the recession on the rail line's failures, though it suffered from service problems and the previously mentioned connectivity issues--even from the casino stops, it's a looong trudge to the Strip.
