Getting to Know 855 North Croft, Big Blue Baby

New, 17 comments

Designed by SPF:a Architects, 855 N. Croft, a new 33-unit condo development that's rising two blocks north of Melrose and two blocks east of La Cienega, is now...blue! "The exterior is going to be blue, pink and gray," Fred Larian, head of local firm Larian Development, tells us. At one point this thing was brown. But blame the blue exterior--which are really prefab cement panels shipped from Switzerland--for some of the delays on the construction side of the project. "We had some slowdowns, they were construction slowdowns," Larian said, adding that the slowdowns were not due to financing. "We are trying to do it perfectly," he said, explaining the difficulties in getting those Swiss panels. 'We don't want to re-do it." Meanwhile, this building will not offer recession pricing. No downtown fire sales here. Prices for condos, which start at 1,575 square feet (plus plenty of outdoor private space), are going to start in the low $800,000s. Penthouse, which will start at 2,000 square feet, will begin at $1.3 million. Sales will start next month, according Larian.
