It was back in May 2008 that Americana at Brand opened, and while the rental portion of the building was wrapping up work, the condo portion (those two towers above) of the building----dubbed Excelsior-- was still under construction. The condo portion received its certificate of occupancy at the beginning of this year, according to sales manager Erin O’Connor, who says 45 of the 100 condos have now sold. Which means: It's almost there in terms of move-ins. Due to the tighter lending stipulations, the project must be 51 percent sold before anyone can start living in the building. Somehow, this rule now seems ridiculous. O'Connor says buyers have been very understanding about the process, adding that buyers know developers "are all working in the same set of rules." At least the lonely condos have Frank Sinatra and the trolley to cheer them up.
