Was the story too much of a distraction? Via a press release from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office: "Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced today that he has appointed Raymond Chan Interim General Manager for the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Mr. Chan currently serves as the Acting General Manager for the Department of Building and Safety, a position he has held since August." Adelman had been on leave following allegations of a sexual attack that happened during a downtown pub crawl earlier this year.

Former Building and Safety General Manager Andrew Adelman Resigned
Today

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced today that he has
appointed Raymond Chan Interim General Manager for the Los Angeles
Department of Building and Safety. Mr. Chan currently serves as the
Acting General Manager for the Department of Building and Safety, a
position he has held since August.

“Raymond Chan is a dedicated public servant who has served the City
of Los Angeles for over a quarter century,” said Mayor Villaraigosa.
“As Interim General Manager of the Department of Building and
Safety, he will continue his service to the City, carrying out the
mission of the Department to protect lives and ensure safety while
contributing to the City’s economic development.”

Prior to his current position, Mr. Chan was Executive Officer
Department of Building and Safety. In this role, he was responsible for
ensuring proper department-wide administration of the City’s zoning,
building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes, as well as
engineering, energy, and disabled access regulations; and all state and
local laws related to construction and maintenance of commercial,
industrial, and residential buildings.

Mr. Chan replaces Andrew Adelman who resigned his position earlier
today.
