Santa Monica May Hike Parking Rates

New, 12 comments

Another week, another story about parking garages in Santa Monica: While the rates would still be cheaper then the Grove or Westfield's Century City, the Santa Monica City Council is considering raising parking rates at garages along Second and Fourth Streets, reports the Santa Monica Daily Press (among other changes, daily rates would go from $7 to $9, and free two-hour daytime parking would drop to one hour), with the revenue helping pay for a parking czar position. Despite the potential hike, some garages in the city (like the civic center garage) remain underutilized, according to the report, which is now suggesting a shuttle bus to ferry people to the 3rd Street Promenade.
