Poor little 1850 North Cherokee in Hollywood is surrounded by 1920s-era buildings that are local landmarks, Historic-Cultural Monuments, or on the National Register of Historic Places. But 1850, built later than its peers in 1939, was found not to "reflect or exemplify any significant broad cultural, political, economic or social history of the nation, state or community," by a Historic Resource Evaluation. Brutal. Well now he's getting his chance to shine...by being torn down and rebuilt as condos. The city council approved plans last month for developers Tanner & White Properties to turn the current two-story, 19-unit apartment building into 39 condominiums. The project will be 18,485 square feet and have 97 parking spaces. Calls to Tanner & White for more details were not returned, but hopefully we'll find out a name for this project soon--don't want to confuse it with the Jared Leto-worshipping Lofts at Cherokee Studios on Fairfax.
*Commenter Appleseed lets us know Kanner Architects are behind the design. They're calling the project Cherokee Avenue Condominium on their website.
