Santa Monica Hires Own Homeless to Clean

New, 16 comments

The Lookout News reports that the Bayside District Board, which oversees Santa Monica's downtown area, has hired a dozen local homeless people to clean up the streets. "The Bayside District Board decided Thursday that hiring the homeless maintenance crew helped to get them off the very streets they cleaned and voted to award a $80,000 contract to Chrysalis, a Santa Monica-based job training and placement agency for homeless individuals." There was some initial concern about favoritism to Chrysalis as opposed to other agencies in awarding to the contract, according to the paper. [Lookout News]
