Universal Lofts Gets A Sibling: Meet Studio-837

New, 18 comments

Canfield Development, the West LA-based developer who also did the Universal Lofts project, that 67-unit condo-turned-rental building wedged on the land between the 101 and Cahuenga Boulevard, has returned to the Valley, and is having the grand opening for Studio-837 this weekend. Located at 12837 Moorpark Street (near Coldwater Canyon), the 52-unit building will offer condos (1,210 to 1,805 square feet) from the low $400,000s and up. Target audience? "I would say young urbanites who live in the Valley," says Steve Erdman, president of Canfield Department. The architect here is Ken Stockton, and judging from the industrial look of the the exteriors, it looks as though Stockton did both buildings. It'll be interesting to see the reaction to this building--for example, Universal Lofts' unfinished walls drew equal parts interest and scorn. Meanwhile, Erdman said the occupancy rate at Universal Lofts is at about 75 percent.
