After the Porn: What to Do With the Studs Theatre

New, 55 comments

The WeHo News published a commentary last week by West Hollywood writer Werner Haas that urged the city to close the sticky-floored Studs Theatre on Santa Monica Blvd. and "reopen it in it’s original 1940’s-era movie house splendor to show Indy, foreign and classic films" (Haas takes a moment to decry current cinema's use of "four-letter words" and "nudity"). Today, the WeHo News published reader responses to Haas' commentary. Paul Kent of WeHo urges the Fox studio to take over Studs so "retirement homes and senior citizen groups can bus in the elderly to watch these movies as the bathrooms are conveniently located on the ground floor. The Russians can learn English from these fun musicals that represent America as a land of opportunity for all. Many gays like musicals too..." Resident George Reese also writes in, saying he likes Haas' idea, and gives readers a vivid description of the Studs' interior. The Arclight, it ain't. [Photo by AtwaterVillageNewbie via Flickr]
