At a press conference today—timed to the end of soil testing for the Westside subway extension—Mayor Villaraigosa stated his impatience over the extension's timetable. "I’m 56 now,” the mayor said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “We are here today to make sure that it gets built before I am 66.” To get this proverbial man on the moon, Mayor V said local governments had to get over their differences and commit to the subway. Hmm—maybe he was referring to those pushing for transit funds to be used for a Gold Line extension into the San Gabriel Valley instead of the Purple Line, because pretty much everyone else is already pro-subway, including the cities of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica.
