EAST LA: Don't get excited, there still is no date for the opening of the Gold Line extension into Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights, and East LA. But Metro recently put out a release about traffic cameras being set up at intersections around the light-rail: "the plan is to complete the installation at the first intersections (Mission, Anderson, Utah streets) by the end of August barring any technical issues." That June quote from Metro's CEO to the Downtown News about the line opening "before September" now looks a bit dubious. [Curbed Staff]
LITTLE TOKYO: Blogdowntown reports on the Nisei Week celebration that kicked off Saturday in LT, and will continue until next weekend with another round of events. Apparently, there will be an eating contest but it's not clear what will be consumed; mmm, mochi. FYI, Nisei refers to the American-born children of Japanese immigrants. [Curbed Staff]
