An Architect for the Hollywood Recreation Center Pool

Just in time for public pool season. Err, the public pool season of 2011. The Department of Public Works awarded a design contract to local firm Frank R. Webb Architects yesterday for Phase I of the Hollywood Recreation Center makeover. Phase I "is proposed to replace a 1950s dilapidated pool building, swimming pool, water slides and spectator area with a modern facility having the same features." Sounds fun! The project at 1122 Cole Avenue is slated to take 22 months and will cost $4 million, with money coming from both Quimby funds (fees doled out by developers) and Proposition K (a property tax assessment that goes toward rehab and upkeep of kid-related infrastructure). The Department of Engineering is currently putting total Hollywood Recreation Center construction costs at $10 million. Frank R. Webb has handled its share of local recreation projects, including the Echo Park Pool facilities and the Ted Watkins pool and bathhouse in Watts.
