The closest Los Angeles comes to appearing in photographer Edgar Martins' eerie and compelling photo essay, "Ruins of the Second Gilded Age," which chronicles ghost buildings and failed spec houses, is a photo of a home in the City in the Hills project in Bakersfield, a development that was at least partially completed before master developer, Los Angeles-based Mountain View Bravo LLC, defaulted on loans. According to July 1st ABC23 report, residents of the community are currently upset that a promised park hasn't yet been built. [NYT]
