[Hancock Park or Malibu? Take your pick ]
Like everyone else, musician Beck and actress/clothing designer Marissa Ribisi seem to be having some real estate troubles. They have two houses on the market, one in Hancock Park and one in Malibu, and both have been chop chop chopped.
1. Hancock Park Mediterranean - Last summer, Real Estalker reported the couple were trying to flip this huge house. (Reader Will Campbell alerts us to this recent chop, and sends in the above photo.) You be the judge: they bought it in June 2007 for $6,750,000 and attempted to sell it in July 2008 for $9 million. At 8,292 square feet, that put the price at $1,085 a square foot. A reader tips us that a new Sotheby's sign has popped up outside the house (he also sent a picture, above), and sure enough the place has been hanging out on the market for a year, even with several chops that have brought the price down short of what the two paid in 2007 to $6,595,000, or about $795 a square foot. The house has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a library, a recording studio and rehearsal room, a swim lane pool, and a cavernous 53' x 26' main room.
2. Malibu Mid-Century Ranch - Beck and Marissa also bought this house in 2007, for $2,050,000. The LA Times reported in October 2008 that the 1,596 square foot Point Dume house was on the market for $2,399,000 or $1,503 a square foot. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the main house, and a separate two bedroom, one bathroom guest house with a "massive fireplace." It's now listed below the buy price at $1,970,000 or $1,234 a square foot.
