Descanso Gardens Gets A Green Gallery

New, 3 comments

Despite the tough economy it seems there are a couple of bright spots in the art world. First the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills announced a major expansion. So did Blum & Poe in Culver City. And Michael Kohn in Beverlygrove. Now we learn via The Architect's Newspaper that Descanso Gardens in La Canada-Flintridge, through a $2.1 million private donation, plans to build a LEED Silver-certified gallery and exhibition space. Funded by a single donor, Heather Sturt Haaga and Paul Haaga, Jr., the 2,800 square foot gallery will reuse a former garage, and add new structures designed by LA-based Frederick Fisher and Partners. The mission of the gallery, according to executive director David Brown as told to the paper, "will be to inspire a new appreciation of nature through visual arts."
