Helping to raise $45 million in federal funds for the Disneyland to Las Vegas maglev, Nevada Senator and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been a vocal supporter of the desert line, but now it looks like he's going with a safer bet (in terms of actually the thing actually getting going). Via the Associated Press: "Nevada senator says he's backing a competing high-speed rail project. The DesertXpress train would connect Victorville, Calif. to Las Vegas and would rely largely on private funding." [AP]
