Many assumed it was a potential loss in parking revenue that kept Dodgers owner Frank McCourt from funding a shuttle bus from Union Station to the baseball stadium this season (last year's bus, while slow, was quite popular). But, Streetsblog points out that the Dodgers are offering free parking for a three-game series against the Oakland A's later this month. Streetsblog did the math and came to the realization that at $15 a pop, McCourt is losing more parking revenue with this promotion than what it would have cost to fund the bus for the entire 2009 season. The blog also takes umbrage with a quote in the Dodgers press release about the free parking: "This gesture is our latest initiative to help ensure that all of our fans can enjoy our National Pastime at Dodger Stadium," Dodger CEO Jamie McCourt said.
