As expected, today the City Council approved Grove developer Rick Caruso's Burton Way development, a project that'll add a Trader Joe's below 88 apartments at Burton Way and La Doux Road. Between this project, and the recently completed SLS Hotel (marked on the above map as the former Meridian Hotel), the neighborhood is definitely seeing some significant changes. But if there was a DeathWatch to be declared, it'd be on the auto shop located directly across from SLS. We've heard unsubstantiated rumors that guests at SLS can hear noise from the auto shop (and maybe it's all just pleasant noise, we don't know), but can't you just see SLS owner Sam Nazarian or someone else snapping up this auto shop and turning it into some instantly trendy taco stand. UPDATE: The architect on the project is Togawa Smith Martin Residential, the same firm which did the Americana at Brand and the Prado in Pasadena.
