The Torrance Memorial Medical Center will likely receive a new $500 million tower, reports the Daily Breeze, a project that will be the city's most expensive building. At that price, that's just about the same amount the Los Angeles Police Dept spent on their downtown building. The Planning Commission approved the tower, which'll replace the Central Tower, earlier this week. Construction is expected to start in 2010 and be completed by 2015. The architect on the project is Ontario, California-based architects HMC Architects, who've done numerous hospitals, schools, and civic projects in the region. Notably, they worked with Coop Himmelb(l)au on that new downtown performing arts school.
