Ghost Buildings May Make You Cough

The Wall Street Journal finds a new and perhaps alarmist angle to the real estate crash: Health issues from those abandoned construction sites. Kicking off the story is an example of a stalled site in Torrance: "After a cash-starved developer halted construction last November of an assisted-living center here, it left a hole in the hillside that neighbors say is loosing possibly contaminated dust on their homes. Local authorities say they haven't detected any pollution. But nearby residents, citing their own tests and some health problems, are calling for an independent investigation." Across the country, there are reports of tumbleweeds, dust and trash plaguing communities. Tumbleweeds! Face masks, or tube socks, everyone! [WSJ]
