It's yet another edition of Ask Curbed. Can you force your landlord to sign a year long lease rather than a month-to-month? Not necessarily. "I have a rental question. My roommates and I live in a house in Silver Lake and our lease is about to come up in two weeks (we’re probably going month-to-month after that). However several random people have been coming around the property lately and after inquiring/sleuthing online, we found that our house is listed for sale. What can we expect to happen if the house is sold to a new owner? Can we be evicted? If not, how would this affect our rent (I’m assuming rent control applies, regardless of your landlord changing)? If we push our landlord to sign a year-long lease, would any possible new owner be forced to recognize it?"
