New, 9 comments

WEST HOLLYWOOD: Sending in the above photo, a reader writes: "Not another Asshat. In WeHo, no less! I thought [grocery store] Pavilions had better taste." For those just catching up, the city has seen an rash of AssHats, an architectural quirk that may or may not die out during the recession. There's also an AssHat aka the new movie theater complex rising next to LA Live in downtown. [Curbed InBox]

MID-WILSHIRE: Showing next week at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the following film: "Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman. Description: "This new documentary, narrated by Dustin Hoffman, explores the monumental career of the 98-year-old Los Angeles-based architectural photographer. Julius Shulman combines the organic with the synthetic, melding nature with revolutionary urban design in images that helped shape the careers of some of the key architects of the twentieth century, including Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Pierre Koenig, and John Lautner."
