ECHO PARK: Echo Park real estate agent Ken Shapiro has balls, we'll give him that. He takes on some, uhm, interesting properties and bravely tries to sell them. His latest great deal alert (he's lost the caps and gone italics): "OK, here is one I told you about before. Only difference is it has been reduced by $50,000, making it, officially, a “great deal." It is in the heart of Echo Park, it is brand new construction, 2 bed 2 ½ bath, 1700 sq ft two story house. Couldn’t be a better location. And it is of course in move-in condition with state-of-the-art everything and two car garage. It was $725,000...... now $675,000! Or, you can have the 3 bedroom next door, which is the exact same house, only larger living room, 3 bedrooms instead of two, and is 2000 sq ft. That one was $825,000.... now can be had for $775,000..." We took the photos above. The address is 1530 Parmer and 1526 Parmer; we know they have been on the market for a while. UPDATE: Eastsider LA, who lives near the homes (which he dubs Tres Feos) was the first one to write about this project back in November 2008. The reaction back then: "How bad are they? Let's just say that my friend Holly's reaction has been echoed by others who have come across Los Tres Feos for the first time, "Oh, I'm so sorry." [Curbed LA]
LITTLE TOKYO: There's an interesting sounding event being put on by the UCLA Architecture and Urban Design school this weekend at the Billy Wilder Theatre at the Hammer Museum. It takes place this Saturday, from 12:30 – 4:30pm. Via the press release: "A/cute Tokyo — a culmination of a 2-year cross-cultural initiative in architecture and urban design, brings together academics and professionals to consider extreme conditions, mutated programs, new technologies, diverse lifestyles, and emerging urbanisms in Tokyo."
