How did we miss that the area is getting a new 50 acre park? The Architects Newspaper heads off to the visitors center at the new Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook; the structure was designed by San Diego-based Safdie Rabines Architects. On the upside, the structure is a "canopied, exposed concrete, steel, and (floor to ceiling) glass structure that hugs the site..." On the downside: Money. "The only downside: because the Parks Department is so poor they couldn’t afford solar panels or other sustainable building elements. Yes, this is still LA, isn’t it?" [Architects Newspaper]
