Candy and Puppets Historic, Big Lots Not So Much

New, 6 comments

A tipster passes on word from today's Cultural Heritage Commission Meeting Agenda. Up to bat for Historical Monument Status was that See’s Candy building in Koreatown (slated to become a mini-mall), and the Bob Baker Marionette Theater in downtown. The council voted to approve those projects, passing them on to the Planning & Land Use Committee, and then on to a full City Council vote. But the Cultural Heritage Commission voted to deny the Big Lots/Safeway on York Blvd in Highland Park historical status. Locals in Highland Park had hoped that monument status would help the community in its struggle with the new tenant, El Super. * UPDATED [Curbed InBox]
