Downtown School Still Failing

New, 7 comments

Last October, news broke that the Coop Himelb(l)au-designed LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) high school on Cesar Chavez was in serious trouble. Among other things, the school didn't have a principal or curriculum, its executive director had quit, and backer/philanthropist Eli Broad was pushing to make it a charter school. Any resolution? Nope, reports the Downtown News. If possible, things have gotten worse for the school, which is scheduled to open in five months. And given that two East Coast-based applicants have turned down the principal position (granted, one applicant turned down the job for personal reasons), it seems likely that news of the school's turmoil has spread to the entire Eastern seaboard.
