The Daily Breeze rehashes Tuesday's City Council vote that OK'd the Mirandela Senior Housing Project, a 34-unit affordable housing project for seniors that will take up three acres of a 20-acre lot at Crenshaw Boulevard and Crestridge Road. According to the paper, the wealthy community had rallied against the project: "At a meeting earlier this month where plans for the project were approved, dozens of residents came out in opposition to the complex, which they said would hurt their property values. In February, the city Planning Commission denied the project saying it did not fit the site's institutional zoning." Meanwhile, the project--which'll help the city satisfy its requirement for affordable housing--still requires a $5 million federal tax credit. [Daily Breeze]
