While California has pretty much stopped funding bus and train service, the city is still chugging along thanks to the November passage of Measure R. In February, it looked like the bus system was getting an upgrade and now comes word from Streetsblog that the expansion is indeed moving forward. A report from the Metro Board's Measure R committee shows that the purchase of clean fuel buses is being recommended, along with more frequent service, less crowded buses, and longer hours of operation. On top of that, new rapid bus lines are set to be created on Venice Blvd., Third St., Sunset Blvd., and Avalon Blvd. Metro is also considering adding rapid service on Slauson Ave., La Brea Ave., Sepulveda Blvd., Florence Ave., and Manchester Ave. [Streetsblog]
