In the latest round of Skytag vs. the City of LA, the Los Angeles Times is reporting that Skytag founder Mike McNeilly, the guy responsible for all those 1969 Statue of Liberty images, is requesting that roughly 118 building sites be grandfathered in and allowed to hold advertising images because the images were in place before the city council declared that December 26th moratorium on new signage. But here's the odd part: The LA Times looked over the list of 118 building submitted by Skytag (that number was eventually reduced by Skytag) and discovered that 33 buildings actually have signs, 66 have no images at all, while the rest of the building have smaller ones, measuring no more than a few feet. (An example of a smaller image can seen above at 1438 Gower.) McNeilly’s tactic, believe billboard experts, is to get an injunction at each of these addresses, a move that would ultimately allows the buildings to have supergraphics and advertising in the future. Via the paper: "If SkyTag is successful, McNeilly could secure permission for images on more than 450 building surfaces -- at locations that include North Hollywood, Koreatown, Westwood, Encino, Granada Hills, Hollywood and downtown Los Angeles." Perhaps the wind blew off the images of Lady Liberty?
