The Hollywood United Neighborhood Council listserve has a reminder of a forthcoming plan by the Community Redevelopment Agency to make Hollywood Boulevard—specifically, the stretch between Western and Vermont Avenues—safer to pedestrians, and more pleasing to the eyes of all. The East Hollywood Streetscape Project (click on quarterly reports to view project details) will feature new, clearly-marked crosswalks, new street trees, curb and gutter repair, and a traffic signal at Hillhurt and Finley. The $1 million project—which could be described as "urban acupuncture"—hopes to begin construction in September, and finish in 2011. The best news, possibly? The project will create six construction jobs. [UHNC/CRA]
