Complaint Box: Being Smothered By Lap-Band Billboards

A reader writes: "This caught my attention driving south on the 605 after merging from the 210. Between the 210 in Bradbury and the 10 near Industry, I counted 11 huge billboards for a "lapband" weight reduction (I guess surgery), with an overweight lady starring on the adds. I exited on Valley blvd, so I'm not sure if there are more down the 605. This is a short stretch of freeway! Is this a weird -only in LA- kind of thing? Is this a record?" Reader, you aren't the only one to notice this phenomenon. Check out this video one guy made of all those lapbands billboards on the 605. And for those wondering what a lapband is, it's surgery for obese people that involves inserting a band in your stomach that creates a special pouch. Via Wikkipedia: "This pouch fills with food quickly and the band slows the passage of food from the pouch to the lower part of the stomach. As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, the message to the brain is that the entire stomach is full and this sensation helps the person to be hungry less often..."[Curbed InBox]
