This morning Blogdowntown snapped a photo (which we have blown up for dramatic effect) of a worker painting over that very large Park Fifth sign in downtown. Everyone first met the sign back in the innocent days of September 2007, but by January 2009, the market had crashed, the sign was attacked by clowns, and the planned Park Fifth project, an ambitious 76-story condo tower, was well on its way to being indefinitely shelved. It doesn't look like the land has been sold, according to the blog. But if this is a white-out, one can only guess another another sign is going up on top of this one. Who wouldn't have rather seen an axe pulled out this morning, seen a little Paul Bunyan action?
