Adios, Columbia Savings! Wilshire Blvd Building Will Come Down

New, 35 comments

As expected, this morning the City Council voted unanimously to approve BRE's planned 482-unit apartment building at Wilshire and La Brea, a move that allows the developer to begin demolition of the 1965 Wilshire Savings building. The LA Conservancy fought to save Wilshire Savings, while some locals opposed the project, saying another development would add more congestion and traffic to the area. As today's vote was called, City Councilman Tom LaBonge (the project is in his district) seemed to reference those who'd opposed the project. “I just want to thank [City Councilman Ed] Reyes as the chair of the [PLUM] committee for the work. We still have work to do with the community, but I ask for an aye vote."
