[pictures of ficus tree apocalypse on La Brea via Franklin Avenue]
Way back in 2007, Curbed commenters wanted to know why the city removed all the ficus trees along the east side of La Brea (a few blocks below Sunset) in Hollywood. At the time, people guessed that the trees were chopped down given that ficus tear up sidewalk, and/or because the owner of the nearby property thought the trees were some sort of liability. Well, a keen-eyed reader writes in this morning: "It's been over two years since all the trees were chopped down on La Brea - and the stumps are still there with orange mesh fencing around them or cones. When is the city going to replace the stumps?"
