HOLLYWOOD: Ah, the good 'ol days when everyone just horsed around on the beach instead of checking their Blackberries all day. There's a big gala at the Cross Roads of the World this Thursday to celebrate the launch of "Los Angeles, Portrait of a City," by Jim Heimann and Kevin Starr. "...this photographic tribute to the City of Angels provides a fascinating journey through the city's cultural, political, industrial, and sociological history through more than 500 images carefully selected by Jim Heimann. These images are given context and resonance through essays by renowned California historian Kevin Starr and in-depth captions by Jim Heimann and David L. Ulin." Tickets are $70 and there are cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and guided tours of historic Cross Roads of the World. Dress is festive. More info. [Curbed InBox]
VENICE: The nice folks at William Adams Architects pass on word that they just completed a retail building in Venice and the owner is having a little building-opening this weekend. "It's at the corner of Washington and Yale, just west of Lincoln. Building is pretty simple it's a retail shell, lease space, but at the very least the wine will be good - owner is wine importer." The address is 3023 Washington Boulevard and the shindig kicks off at 4pm on Saturday. [Curbed InBox]
