PASADENA: Eater reports that David Haskell has teamed with producer Gale Anne Hurd to overhaul her wine bar/restaurant Vertical (pictured). Expect both a menu revamp, as well as a makeover for the restaurant. Haskell also plans to expand the list of wines by the glass to about 80 wines.
SANTA MONICA: In a surprise move, Italian restaurant Riva is shuttering, just a few months after revamping the menu. Even more surprising, chef Jason Travi is opening a second branch of Fraiche in the Riva space, scheduled to open Oct 14. Oddly, Travi is on a two-month vacation right now and it's still unclear if he will return to helm the restaurant.
WEST HOLLYWOOD: Moving into the Red Lemon Store on Santa Monica Blvd, butcher shop and deli Salt's Cure hopes to open in early 2010. The shop plans to specialize in locally-sourced product and will offer a small menu with seating for 20.
