Let's hope this doesn't discourage officials from implementing a bike-rental program here: The New York Times reports the Paris program has hit a few bumps, well, many. While popular, about 80% of the bikes used in the program have been stolen or damaged. And the issue represents class struggles within Parisian society, (and urban society, in general) as disaffected youths steal and vandalize the expensive bikes, which are seen as products of the "'bobos,' or 'bourgeois-bohèmes,' the rich, trendy urban middle-class, and they stir resentment and covetousness."
