Cell phone towers have been shot down in Echo Park, Glendale, and Baldwin Hills, but in those instances, city officials or agencies (dealing with locals who didn't want the towers) put pressure on the cell phone companies to withdraw tower plans. This is the first time we've seen a court get involved. The Los Angeles Times reports that earlier this month the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Palos Verdes Estates had the right to reject two cellular towers that Sprint intended to put up in the area. "The city's victory was hailed by urban planners concerned about the proliferation of visual blight in the name of technological progress." [LA Times]
