Train Fight Intensifies

New, 30 comments

In advance of Thursday's Metro Board meeting, the Pasadena Star-News reports that 14 LA-area Congressmen/women have signed a letter to Metro saying please, please, please request federal funds for the Gold Line Foothill extension (see map); Metro is currently only considering the Westside subway and Downtown Connector for federal funding. The politicians are saying the Gold Line has a better chance of seeing federal New Starts funds since its already finished its environmental impact review—the subway and the DC are still in the midst of their EIRs. According to the Los Angeles Times, the politicians said LA County will risk "not get anything from the federal New Starts program unless it adds other regional rail proposals" to their request for funding. Fighting for public transit in LA—it's definitely not the '80s anymore. [Pasadena Star-News/LA Times]
