The New York Times visits painter David Hockney on his self-imposed LA exile in his hometown of Yorkshire, England. Hockney has iconically chronicled Los Angeles and its inhabitants in bright colors since the sixties, when he "shocked the London art world further by decamping to Hollywood. There he bleached his dark hair blond and began making his lushly azure 'Swimming Pool' paintings." He assures the NYT that he's coming back to California--he still has a house in the Hollywood Hills and an office in Santa Monica. [NYT]
