Potato trumps Orion, according to an Oregon newspaper: According to the Daily News Online, the local county planning commission recently turned down a proposal for a “dark sky” ordinance. "The proposal was submitted to the commission by the son of an astronomer. It sought to limit the use of outdoor lighting at night — to conserve energy and help people see the stars." The idea was shot down by farmers and ranchers, some of whom said they needed the lights on so they could work during the potato harvest. Regardless, the dark sky ordinance isn't a new idea. [TDN]
