Know your mudslides. An interactive map, courtesy of the LA Times: "The Times has created an interactive map showing locations considered by the U.S. Geological Survey to be at risk for mudslides. The USGS issued a warning last week about what could happen in a worst-case scenario, which assumes a rainstorm of 12 hours' duration that strikes when debris-retention basins are already full. A storm of that size occurs about once every two years." [LA Times]
