The LA Times' Christopher Hawthorne on the LA Conservancy and 60s nostalgia: "Until the Conservancy starts working to educate Angelenos about the buildings of [1970s] and the early 1980s -- until it gets well out in front of the curve of public taste, in other words -- it will remain a reactive body, rushing to put out fires." Hawthorne cites three 60s buildings (including the Columbia Savings) the Conservancy is trying to save. Preservation battles aside, isn't the bigger problem the unattractive buildings that go up on the sites? [LA Times]
