Who knows if this is all fanciful talk, but Peter Darbee, CEO of Pacific Gas & Electric, is quoted in the New York Times today talking about PG&E and how the company "anticipates a surge in plug-in electric cars that draw power directly from the grid by 2011" and hence, company will have to change its distribution network, running more lines into neighborhoods in California. Commenters on the site immediately start attacking the idea/PG & E. Too much dependency on coal! PG&E is gonna gouge Californians for as much as they can! And the predictable. Gregg: "How about spending these huge sums improving public transportation instead of trying to preserve the moribund model of suburban car dependency." [NY Times]
