Downtown Standard to Blame For Chlorine Panic

New, 20 comments

Remember that strange chlorine smell in downtown around Seventh and Figueroa streets that caused a minor alarm two weeks ago? Turns out, it's The Standard Hotel's fault. Via the Associated Press:

"The corporate owner of The Standard hotel in downtown Los Angeles has been charged with a felony alleging workers illegally disposed of pool chemicals that sickened subway riders and sparked fears of a terrorist attack. A federal complaint unveiled Friday says workers poured acid and chlorine down a roof drain near the hotel pool on Jan. 19. The fumes caused people to start vomiting at a nearby subway station and about 100 emergency personnel responded."· Hotel firm charged in LA pool chem disposal [Mercury News]
