Long Beach's young city councilman Robert Garcia has proposed an idea for Downtown LB's dreary retail situation (let's just say it ain't Robertson Boulevard): an outlet mall. Citing the success of LA's Citadel Outlet Stores near Commerce, Garcia writes on his web site, "Why not fill City Place and Pine Ave. with outlet stores from Polo, Ann Taylor, Nike, Banana Republic and other outlets that would compliment some of the current anchors like Ross, Nordstrom Rack and Big 5. A Downtown with outlet stores would be a regional attraction and would serve local residents." Well, it's an idea. How about a Long Beach Live that comes with retail? [Robert Garcia, Official Site]
